Our visitors want to be involved in our web site - how can we encourage them to communicate with us as well as other visitors?

User interaction is one of the greatest attractions of the Internet, but can also be one of the greatest challenges in designing a web site.

Many of our projects have faced this obstacle and we have developed systems which encourage web site visitors to get involved.

On the WHL web site, we implemented a Fan Poll where visitors to the site could cast their vote for each of the weekly poll questions and then view the results from all of the respondents in graphical format.

We had also added an Online Trivia Test which allows visitors to test their knowledge of hockey and to compare their results to those of other visitors.

Jeffrey Dawson, a Red Deer City Councillor, wanted the ability to get input from the citizens of Red Deer and to communicate with them about issues facing the city. We implemented an online bulletin board system where visitors could post their questions or concerns and Jeffrey could respond in a timely manner. This system also allowed his visitors to interact with one another to discuss the issues.

We also created an online polling system so Jeffrey could post questions about the city management and get responses from his visitors. This system allowed for the questions to be changed on a regular basis and the results were immediately available for anyone visiting the site.
